This course provides a general overview of commonly encountered types of mental illness well as general behavior issues related to stressors. Officers will gain an understanding of types of stressors that can cause and increase issues such as crisis, domestic, and dispute calls that officers encounter and respond to on a daily basis.

This course will present a series of skills that can be used to de-escalate and manage general and specific crisis situations. Officers will learn the import role of communications, empathy, body language, and how to avoid roadblocks especially in this time of the COVID pandemic crisis while balancing officer safety. This Course was created in collaboration with: MN CIT, MN Sheriff’s Association, Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office, National Command & Staff College, Crystal & Rochester Police Departments
